Jun. 5th, 2009 11:53 pmBack at work *blah*. Haven't posted pics (no time). Away reenacting this weekend.
BUT I just wanted to ask whether any of you have seen "Castle", with Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic. Because I just watched a couple of episodes with the bloke and it totally pinged memories of "Remington Steele" (Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalest).

Date: 2009-06-05 02:16 pm (UTC)Castle has rapidly become one of those shows I can make no critical argument for but just really enjoy watching. It's charming, funny, not too insulting to one's intelligence (this is pop television) and with a strong, smart female lead who doesn't just pout, where inappropriate clothing for her job and jump in to bed with everyone. Oh and I love Castle's family.
The good news is that it's just been renewed for a second season. Fillion says he's in shock as that never happens for him. *g*

Date: 2009-06-05 02:27 pm (UTC)Yeah, she's great - I've been reading commentary where they say the series suffers for lack of any family background for Beckett - but I'm not in a hurry for any of that. It usually leads to soapy shit that weakens the character and the show.

Date: 2009-06-05 02:32 pm (UTC)I can't believe I typed "where" instead of "wear." I blame sinus meds.
The reviewers obviously aren't paying attention. Beckett's told us things, there's the necklace she wears and we know about her mother and her ex-boyfriend. It's unfolding the way this sort of show should, with emphasis on the cases and the interaction of the two leads and our finding out just a little about their backgrounds along the way.

Another thing it has in common with Remington Steele is how easy it is to like/become interested in everyone in the cast, warts and all.
There's another new US tv show that reminds me of an older one, The Unusuals:
It's like a black comedy take on Hill Street Blues... with a slight edge of MASH.

Date: 2009-06-05 04:18 pm (UTC)i *like* NF's character, who is a bit of a sleaze at first (albeit a charming sleaze) but as the season progresses you see a much more appealing side to him - especially in his relationship with his daughter.
