I've been a little lazy about my re-enactment posts lately. My group now has a blog, and there are plenty of snap-happy Routiers who are more talented at photography than I am. However I got inspired over the last weekend and took several pictures (under the cut).

What can I say about Winter Camp? It was cold (-5 degrees on Saturday night) but dry, with clear skies most of the time. Anyone wandering away from the campfire late at night was rewarded with an awesome night sky display (yes, the southern hemisphere does have more stars *g*).

We had fun, ate hugely well thanks to everyone on the catering team, drank, sang, shot, drilled, drank some more, talked about anything and everything under the sun and stars and generally exhausted ourselves. I've spent most of the week recovering (back at work, alas).

It was a cold, clear frosty morning.
The early risers get the fire going again. Detritus from the previous night (song books, overturned stools) still in evidence.
What happens when you leave a bucket of water outside overnight.
Frozen olive oil.
Visiting Polish boyars instructing in the art of the sabre.
The younger members (and some older ones) coloured in the targets.
Round one of the Captayne's Cup competition, down in the gully.
Jackie, queen of campfire cookery.

This weekend - back to the Big Bang with fingers crossed I can make the word count by the deadline!

Okay, I haven't had quite enough of the heat of summer to off-set a groan at the reminder of what cold is like. *g* But these photos are terrific! I'm glad you share them here. I love seeing all of this--and having visiting Polish boyars? Just...fantastic. *g* Thank you!

We don't really have winter cold where most of us live, near the coast. OK, I'm in the lower Blue Mountains where we get occasional frosts and Katoomba, which is about 40 km uphill from here, gets snow on a few days every year. Still, it's a different experience for most of us. It gives us the opportunity to wear our nice warm 17th century clothing without collapsing from heat exhaustion!

I love seeing all of this--and having visiting Polish boyars? Just...fantastic. *g*

*g* One of them looked suspiciously like our captayne - maybe his twin brother?

Glad you enjoyed!

Oh, do keep posting your pics here - it gives me just the right level happily nostalgic for Aus, I can imagine the smells, and the way it all feels and sounds... Suppose I might manage a visit one day... *g* Look at that sky! The frost! -5!! Sounds very much like a good time was had by all too, and yeay visiting Polish boyars! *g* (We're all poppies over here suddenly - have some of those for the sunshine warmth of them!)

Oh, do keep posting your pics here

I'll try to - my camera is several years old now and has suffered through many trips and camping-type events. Both batteries are kinda dodgy and the camera itself has never recovered from one particularly dusty event in Victoria! But I've heard hints of something for my birthday so you never know *g*.

Oh, and Australian light is not the same as English light, and you can pretty much tell, can't you, just by the intensity of it even in winter. Glad I could satisfy that nostalgia, just a bit :)

Thank you for the poppies!

We did!

The lentils were to die for - I like them anyway, but Jackie mixed them with fresh kale and it gave that extra bit of texture for the extra yum.
