The Interview Meme (from ProBodie)
Oct. 17th, 2005 10:06 am1. When did you first see Martin Shaw and how long have you followed his career?
In retrospect, probably when he played Banquo in Polanski's 'Macbeth'. As a 'name' in 'The Professionals'. I recognised him again in 'The Scarlet Pimpernel' in the 90's, but didn't really start following his career until I got into Bodie/Doyle a little over a year ago.
2. Are you a slash, gen or het girl and why?
In fandom generally, it's mixed. I am, for example, very much a Buffy/Spike girl. Or Ivanova/Sinclair, Ivanova/Garibladi, Ivanova/Lyta (in fact, anyone except Talia or Marcus - not keen on either character in a 'pairing' sense). I like my heroes & heroines to be strong & can't abide smarminess, artificial attractiveness or wimpiness. I need the same qualities in those they are paired with.
So when I came across Bodie/Doyle slash, my brain (and other bits) just went "Oh Yes!". They are so bloody beautiful together. It's partly the very good writing in this fandom, partly the "special agent" genre with the edge of danger and bleakness, but primarily it's the characters. They go off together like a box of fireworks on Guy Fawkes' Night. I like that they are equals, different strengths & skills, but still equals. I love watching them interact on screen & I adore fantasizing about what goes on "off screen".
3. What would be your perfect career?
Something project related & creative. I'm not sure if I would be any good at it, or have the discipline to manage the free-lancing world, but I get really bored with the repetitive aspects of what I do now. Every now and then (usually around monthly financial report time) I start wondering what else is out there *g*.
4. If you were invisible, what would you do first?
Depends when and where it happened *g* If I was at home, for instance... (censored). Out 'n about, I'd probably want to sneak into John Howard's office and, assuming any clothes & equipment I carried were also invisible, tape record him selling Australia down the river to his pal, GWB. Then I'd leave a copy of the tape with each of the major Australian newspapers.
5. Is there anyone, living or dead, you'd love to meet?
This could be a very long list but I'll restrain myself! The choice is obviously affected by where I am now - ask me again in 6 months *g*
Living: Lewis Collins - because I feel after 3 performances & the Q&A session that I've 'met' Martin, or near enough to. I don't need to get closer than that. Lew OTOH is still a mystery man to me.
Dead: Christopher Marlowe - fascinating man, fascinating life.

Date: 2005-10-18 08:40 am (UTC)1) When did you first encounter fandom (in general) and the Professionals fandom (in particular)? What was your initial reaction?
2) Who would make a better PM? George Cowley, Tony Blair or the other bloke (whoever it turns out to be), and why?
3) Do your work colleagues know about your ESQ identity? If yes, how do they react?
4) Which historical era would you most like to visit and why?
5) Chest hair - yes or no?

Date: 2005-10-18 06:22 pm (UTC)forced meinvited me to watch it. I think he sooo regrets showing me it as I fell in love with it straight away. Slashwise, it wasnt until after Enterprise I started wondering what else was out there - and discovered Pros. My love of it has yet to wane, in fact my interest in other slash had dimmed somewhat. And my ever growing zine collection is testament to that fact! And my initial reaction? Bloody hell, gimme more!2. Hmm, well, I am not a particular lover of politics, if Im honest, and really they are all pissing in the same pot (if I may be so rude). In the interests of diplomacy, I'll say Cowley - I do think he would have been brilliant in the post.
3. Somehow word has got around work about my interest in slash and, um, gay porn. But the way I figure it - all the blokes talk about and enjoy watching porn and 2 women together, so why shouldnt I? It really doesnt bother me now :-)
4. Historical era. Hmm, that's a difficult one. I think Victorian times, I love that whole era - the Dickensian period fascinates me. Although Henry VIII still holds a large interest for me :-)
5. YES, YES, A MILLION TIMES YES. Although Bodie doesnt have any, does he? So it cant put me off too much if there isnt any chest hair - but I do have a tendency towards hair - except on faces!
