this post and this post concern use of United States copyright legislation to remove legitimately posted works from the Internet. Sad, stupid and strange.
My eyes are glazing at some of the arguments, but the big picture is certainly unattractive. Speaking of DCMA abuse, some idiot used that law to make somebody take down a sporking on Deleterius. The person attacked didn't fight it because they weren't prepared to reveal their real identity to the idiot fic-writer.
The SFWA issue has been become increasingly ugly over the past year - They've made fandom_wank several times. It was bad enough when it was a bloody civil war, splitting the science fiction writer community in half but now, the SFWA seems to be using tactics that will most likely have terrible consequences on the entire online community and copyright and intellectual freedom laws for everyone. Ugh. If they are doing this in ignorance - I'm furious and disgusted. It they are doing it on purpose to bring the whole system down in flames - I'm furious and disgusted.

Rule #1 of working in any creative field in the 21st century should be: Your Fans Are Not The Enemy.
