kiwisue: (Look at me)

The last couple of days have been very pleasant and amusing.

The pathologist's report came back "mission accomplished". I've had the stitches out (although I'm now strapped up with steri-strips and have instructions not to bump anything or move my head too far or too quickly for another couple of weeks).

We watched the "New Tricks" episode where Esther Lane is injured and Brian is left floundering until Jack and Gerry come to the rescue. After Brian's third or fourth well meaning (but really!) attempt to look after his wife, B turned to me and said "do you think I'm a little like Brian?". Mmmmm... I had to acknowledge there was some truth there - maybe it was the walkie talkies that clinched it.

[livejournal.com profile] shootingtokill reminded me about an old story of mine, 'Well Hall', which was based around Eltham Palace and the site of Well Hall, home of Sir Thomas More's daughter Margaret Roper, in Greenwich. I rechecked the EH site & found that the pics of Virginia Courtald's bedroom were missing (there's one HERE instead). But noseying around the site I discovered that there's a new audio tour for visitors, narrated by none other than David Suchet (Krivas)!

My husband thinks our 'sooshell' looks like Esther (might be the short hairstyle) ... so when we watch New Tricks he refers to Brian as "Sue's" husband.

*smiles* there is a resemblance, I guess. Although Esther must have the patience of a saint - not sure if anyone I know could put up with him!

I loved Well Hall (your story) and keep meaning to visit Well Hall (the place) but keep running out of time.

Hope you're feeling OK!

It's all gardens now, apart from the Tudor Barn, which is now a pub. Eltham's worth a look-see as well.
Am good - thanks for your wishes!

Great news! It must have been a big relief for you to finally get the Pathologist's report that all is OK. Still a little way to go before you are back to normal, but things certainly are looking up.

Thank you. It's just a nuisance now. Hopefully it'll heal without much scarring.

"mission accomplished".

That's brilliant news, Sue! Fantastic! And you must be so pleased (pleased is a bit of an understatement, but *very* happy..)

And thanks for the fic-related pictures. I'd only heard of Eltham Palace so I've learnt something new today. I wonder, how did you stumble across Well Hall in the first place?

Thank you *g*

how did you stumble across Well Hall in the first place?
Oh, down a very strange pathway. I had a plot idea and thought I remembered a folk song by that name, but I was thinking about Something Else. Then I remembered it was a country dance tune. But the name still felt interesting enough to use. I Googled and discovered the Roper connection, went for a visit and found my plot, quite different to the one I started with!

(first longish story I wrote, so I was incredibly nervous about it).

Thanks for that link.

And Well Hall was your *first* fic? I'm very impressed.

First one of any length that I got out there. I'd done a couple of short (<1,000 words) ones and a longer one that remains hidden to this day!

Very happy for you about the pathologist's report, excellent news. And yes, that particular episode of 'New Tricks' was the first one I came across one night on BBC Prime. I found it utterly charming and watched every week from that point on.

Thank you!

I actually bought the first series on spec, but I'd heard good things about it so it wasn't a complete stab in the dark. Just love it *big fat happy grin*!

So pleased to hear that everything's turned out so well. Hope life gets back to normal for you very soon.

That was an excellent New Tricks ep, wasn't it? It's a great show IMHO, one of the few things worth watching on tv today.
